A drama series and an ensemble film led the nominations announcement, setting the stage for one of the year’s most closely watched award ceremonies

Nominations for this year’s Meridian Arts Awards were announced Wednesday morning, with drama series “Harborline” and ensemble film “The Long Crossing” emerging as the most-nominated titles ahead of the ceremony scheduled for later this year.

“Harborline” received eleven nominations across categories including outstanding drama series, lead and supporting acting honors, and writing, while “The Long Crossing” picked up nine nominations spanning best ensemble cast, directing, and several technical categories. The Meridian Arts Awards, now in its eighteenth year, said this year’s nominee pool reflected an unusually competitive field across both television and film categories.

“This was one of the most difficult nomination rounds our voting body has faced in recent memory, given how strong the overall field was this year,” said Meridian Arts Awards executive director Thomas Ferrante in a statement accompanying the announcement. Ferrante’s remarks are illustrative of the organization’s characterization of this year’s competitive nomination process.

A Competitive Field Across Categories

According to the nominations list, several first-time nominees appeared across major acting categories, a development award organizers noted as reflecting a broader trend toward recognizing newer talent alongside established names. The directing category in particular drew attention for including three first-time nominees among its five contenders.

Industry analysts said the nominations set up several closely watched races, particularly in the drama series category, where “Harborline” faces strong competition from two other previously well-regarded nominees. Entertainment commentators noted that voting patterns this year appeared less predictable than in recent ceremonies.

What Happens Next

The full list of nominees has been published on the awards organization’s official site, with winners set to be announced at a ceremony in the coming months. Industry observers say the lead-up to the event is likely to generate significant attention as nominees campaign across press and promotional events ahead of the final vote.
